Health Economics Workshop Success

Nowgen recently ran a workshop entitled Using Health Economics to Value Technologies. The workshop was organised by the Health Economics Research Team at The University of Manchester, two North West based consultancies in health economics; Mapi Values and RTI Health Solutions, and Nowgen. The National Institute of Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) also presented on the UK position.
The workshop was a good opportunity to network with both the academic and commercial communities about the importance of health economics as part of developing and assessing technology for use in the healthcare market.
Delegates learnt about outcome measures in economic evaluation, the European overview, and the UK position, particularly NICE’s role and the process of demonstrating the value of technologies.
Delegates were from both large and small businesses, from University and NHS technology transfer organisations and represented specific research projects.
One delegate stated the workshop was a “Very useful overview of health economics and implications for technologies/services/choices” and another that the workshop was “Very helpful: valuable info in informal atmosphere which encouraged interaction.”
The workshop was over-subscribed and generally very well received by delegates. Evaluation gave useful pointers for Nowgen to develop follow-on workshops.
