Emma’s main role at Nowgen is developing and delivering training courses for health professionals. These courses are for professionals from a variety of clinical settings, such as midwifery and primary care. She also supports aspects of the public engagement programme.
Emma has a genetics degree from Sheffield University and an MSc in human molecular genetics and genetic counselling from Imperial College London. After completing her masters she worked at Moorefield’s Eye Hospital NHS Trust as a research nurse and genetic counsellor. She was also part of the London IDEAS Genetic Knowledge Park team at the North West Thames Regional Genetics Centre where she worked on a project to provide better access to services to ethnic minorities.
Emma has also worked within professional training as part of the Science Learning Centre London team, where she developed and delivered courses on genetics for school science teachers. Whilst in this post she was seconded to the Natural History Museum where she was responsible for developing the Museum’s programme of continuing professional development for teachers. Emma’s public engagement activities include being a contributing author of the Nuffield Curriculum Centre’s Science and Society A-level textbook.
