Leah Holmes joined the Public Engagement, Education and Training team at Nowgen in May 2007 as a Project Officer. She project manages the schools and education programme and works on Nowgen's public engagement projects.

Since graduating from The University of Birmingham in 1999, Leah has worked as a Molecular Biologist in the industrial sector. Firstly for The Forensic Science Service and then for The Doctors Laboratory Genetics Department, delivering and developing tests for inherited conditions. She then obtained a PhD and worked as a Post-doctoral Researcher  at The University of Manchester, investigating the relationship between protein synthesis and mRNA decay in yeast.

With a keen interest in scientific communication, widening participation and the student voice, Leah obtained qualified teacher status and has taught in several primary school settings. She has also delivered practical science sessions to secondary school pupils throughout the North West and has written educational materials for The Children&#8217;s University of Manchester.
