Leah Holmes joined the Public Engagement, Education and Training team at Nowgen in May 2007 as a Project Officer. She project manages the schools and education programme and works on Nowgen's public engagement projects. Since graduating from The University of Birmingham in 1999, Leah has worked as a Molecular Biologist in the industrial sector. Firstly for The Forensic Science Service and then for The Doctors Laboratory Genetics Department, delivering and developing tests for inherited conditions. She then obtained a PhD and worked as a Post-doctoral Researcher at The University of Manchester, investigating the relationship between protein synthesis and mRNA decay in yeast. With a keen interest in scientific communication, widening participation and the student voice, Leah obtained qualified teacher status and has taught in several primary school settings.
