Dr Emma Gillaspy

Emma Gillaspy is the Information and Network Development Scientist in the European Projects Office. She is mainly responsible for all aspects of the Orphanet project, a Europe-wide initiative to raise awareness and improve the diagnosis and treatment of rare diseases.

Emma graduated from The University of Manchester with a BSc (Hons) in Genetics in 1999. She went on to complete her PhD, also at The University of Manchester, on the genetics of Osteoarthritis. Emma then worked for two years as a clinical molecular geneticist at the National Genetics Reference Laboratory (NGRL) Manchester, before joining the Nowgen team. She is an active participant in the human genetics community and regularly presents her work at various academic conferences including the European Society for Human Genetics. She is also interested in engaging young people in genetics and she has published an article in the Biological Sciences Review magazine as well as teaching aspects of genetic study day’s held at Nowgen.
