Funding is by a portfolio of external grants, partnership funds and income generated from the business support, events, and training courses provided by Nowgen. Nowgen programmes are increasingly aligned with those of the Manchester Biomedical Research Centre and have academic links established with the Partner Universities.
Nowgen was established in June 2002 as a Genetics Knowledge Park with funding from the Departments of Health and Trade & Industry. The Northwest Regional Development Agency and the European Regional Development Fund jointly funded the building of the £3.5 million Nowgen Centre, completed in January 2005.
