Practical Biobanking

30 June - 1 July 2008

The Nowgen Centre

This two day intensive course is designed for both Biobank sponsors and researchers looking to
establish and maintain a biological sample resource. The emphasis of the course will be on the practical aspects of establishing and running a successful Biobank.

On the first day we will cover:

  • Biobanking DNA and tissue
  • Data accrual and sample tracking
  • Laboratory Information Management Systems
  • Design and optimisation of operating procedures
  • Quality standards

Delegate dinner including after dinner keynote speaker and discussion: why ethics matter in biomedical science.

On the second day we will cover:

  • Sample and process research for better Biobanking
  • Access policies
  • Developing national and international biobanking networks
  • A trip to UK Biobank
  • Sample and data accrual, shipping, storage and retrieval of samples at UK Biobank

We are seeking accreditation for the course from the Royal College of Pathologists.
